Have you ever troubled with your slower computer? Are you afraid to run some unknown programs trying to speed it up? If searching the internet for some solutions to solve a slower computer, you will get different advice such as running an anti-virus program or uninstall some unwanted programs. Rarely of them notice that fragments on the computer is another factor for a slower computer and a simple disk defragmentation will help to easily speed it up.

We all know that fragments always come because of the allocation of the files/folders on the computer hard disk. Normally, the file/folder will be saved in the same place and series according to the restored time. But when is not enough free available space for the next file/folder, it will be scattered into pieces and located in several places. When some files/folders are deleted / removed from the computer, there will be some gaps left behind among these files/folders. Therefore, the new content will be added to previous files directly rather than to the end of the hard disk. As days go, there will be lots of such kind of scattered files located on the computer because of normal file action like editing, deleting, updating, downloading and etc, making the computer fragmented day by day.

So in our daily life, in order to enjoy every day with the computer, it is necessary for us to run a disk defragmentation at a regular basic. A defragmentation will rearrange the files on the hard disk, making parts of files/folders always locate at the same place of the computer contiguously and releasing large available space for the next storage action, so as to speed up the computer.

In Microsoft Windows operating system, we are provided a Disk Defragmenter to defragment the computer by going Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools-> Disk Defragmenter. Here, you can select the disk volume that you want to defragment, and then simply click Defragment to begin the defragment process. If you find that it is very slow to defragment computer in this way, you can go to boot the computer into safe mode and have another try. Without the interference of other running programs, it is be much faster.

But if you really unhappy with the lower-efficiency of window’s built-in defragmenter, you can rely on a special designed defrag program. That will not only speed up the defragmentation, but also speed up your computer in a few minutes.
