Nowadays, Windows XP operating system has been the first choice for many Pc users because of its amazing operating interface and stable performance. But as days by, the XP computer will also become slower and slower. So how to easily speed up Windows XP has been the main concern for all XP users.
Here, we will discuss some rather easy ways on how to clearly speed up XP computer.
1) Improve startup speed.
When starting up the computer, the blue scrollbar will take several rounds tireless before getting onto the system. For those whose seek for high-efficiency, this will be a thing that can not bear. So we can reduce the time of the scrollbar to speed up Windows XP. You can open “Registry Editor” to locate the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager/Memory Management/ PrefetchParameters, and change the value of “EnablePrefetcher” from “3″ to “1″. Also, you can go to “My Computer” to select ”Properties”-> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> Primary IDE Channel -> Advanced Settings -> locate “Current Transfer Mode” and then change it from “Not Applicable” to “None. Please note that if you are using VIA chip board, please do not modify the item “VIA Bus Master IDE Controller”.
2) Optimize My networks Places
When Windows XP is using the network places, the system will first search its own shared directory, the printers as shared resources other kinds of scheduled tasks and then show them all, which will greatly affect the computer speed. If it is not necessary, you can delete it directly: open “Registry Editor” to find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\sofeware\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explore\RemoteComputer\NameSpace,and delete the two entries below:
1) {2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE08002B30309D} (printer)
2) {D6277990-4C6A-11CF8D87- 00AA0060F5BF}(scheduled tasks),
3) Increase shutdown speed
If we want to increase the shutdown time, first we can reset the time to automatically turn off programs: access Registry Editor -> find HKEY_CURRENT_USER /Control Panel/ Desktop, and then change the value of “AutoEndTasks” to “1” and both the value of “HungAppTimeout” and “WaitTOKillService” to “1000”. With the simple modification here, you will greatly speed up your Windows XP at shutdown.
4) Improve broadband speed.
By default, windows XP keeps 20% of your bandwidth, which does no effect to computer users. It is much better to make full use of it rather than leave it alone. You can go to Start->Run -> type “gpedit.msc” to access Group Policy Editor. Here, please locate Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network ->QoS Packet Scheduler -> select “Limit reservable bandwidth” in the right-hand pane -> double click it and then tick “Enable”, change Bandwidth limit from 20 to “0″.
5) Form good habit in using Windows XP computer.
When using the computer, there is no doubt for us to browse the website, download programs and store/ delete files, etc. These actions will cause some useless TEMP /download files and other kind of useless junk files on the computer. So to always speed up Windows XP, please do remember to clean up these files and some unwanted programs from your computer. Also, it is highly recommended that you can run a disk defragmentation after the cleanup of the files / programs to effectively make the files store close together and easy to get access to.
In conclusion, it is very easy for you to speed up Windows XP computer with the above methods. Frustrated with your slow XP? Go to speed it right now!
