Do you want to speed up your computer massively and enjoy faster computer speed all the time? To a large extent, a slow computer always results from a slow startup. Here, some methods will be discussed on how to greatly speed up your computer at startup.

Firstly, optimize BIOS settings
When booting up the computer, please continuously press “DEL” button to access the BIOS setting wizard, select “Advanced BIOS Feature”, and then “HDD-O”(that is, start from Hard drive) when you see “First Boot Device”; tick “Disable” within “ Above 1Mb Memor Test” and “Enable” within “ Quick Power ON Selftest”; then go to “ Advanced Chipset Feature”, change “ 8 ns/10 ns” to “Fats” or “Turbo” within “ Bank 0/1 DRAM Timing”. You can also change the parameter of “SDRAM CAS Latency” to “2”.

Secondly, optimize Desktop
Please remember not to store many files/folders on the desktop. And it is recommended that you can delete some useless desktop icons. Hence, there will be no need for the system to start too many things when booting up the computer to speed up your computer.

Thirdly, optimize startup programs
When starting up the computer, some programs or services will automatically start. Thus take up large amount of system resource and slow down the computer. So please go to Start -> Run -> type “msconfig” and press “Enter” to access “Services”. Here, please uncheck the programs that do not need to run at windows startup.

Fourthly, remove window boot screen
when booting up, the computer will take some time to load the window boot screen, which will a little slow down the computer. So you can first go to tick “Display contents of system folders” and “Show hidden files and folders” within My Computer/ Tools/ Folder Options/ View. And then go to search a file named “Msdos.sys” under drive C. After finding it out, right click it to select “Properties” and cancel its “Read-only” properties, then open it with Plain Text Editor, add “logo=0” at the end of the “Option” paragraph. Hence, it will a little speed up your computer at startup.

Last, regularly maintain system.
We know that too many installed programs will also become one main cause for a slower computer. So you need to periodically maintain the system with the packaged Maintenance Wizard within System Tools. Moreover, to speed up your computer, a simple disk defragmentation is needed, too.

With the above several methods, you can massively speed up your computer. But among all of them, lots of PC users will always ignore disk defragmentation, taking it for granted that it has nothing to do with the computer speed. That is wrong for a defragment process will help to rearrange the file locating on the hard disk and store all parts of a file always close together and contiguously. Only in this way, will it be much faster for the hard disk head to read or write some related data.

As what you see above, it is easy for you to speed up your computer in many ways. But please bear in mind that a disk defragmentation can not be neglected when trying to get a faster computer. Go to run one if you have never run it before!

When using the computer, please note that there is such kind of file: .SHS file, which maybe come to you in sheep’s clothing (normally by emails) and then destroy your computer. So to maintain peak computer performance, it is necessary to keep your eyes when receiving known resources.

Firstly, it is necessary for us to know something about the .SHS file. The SHS file type is primarily associated with ‘Shell Scrap Object File’ by Microsoft Corporation, which is part of the Microsoft embed objects inside objects philosophy. Basically, it happens when we drag and drop selected contents like document text, drawing objects, and graphics to the Windows desktop, a file with the extension .SHS will be generated on the desktop. But it is very dangerous according to the two reasons below:

1) In windows, its default icon is exactly similar with Notepad’s.
2) Normally, the file extension: .SHS is hidden, even though you have selected to show all types of file extensions within My Computer-> Tools -> Folder Options -> View.

Here, we take a test to see why we say it is horrid:
1) Please go to create a Notepad Document Scrap on your desktop, and then open Notepad, click Insert -> Object -> tick “Create from files” and then insert the one you have just created -> click OK.
2) Click “Edit” and then Package Object -> Edit Object -> click “Edit” within the popping-up window -> select “Common line” -> type “Format.com a: /autotest” as what you can see in the below screenshot -> Click “OK”.
3) Then drag and drop the newly-updated files on the Windows desktop and rename it to “I love you.txt.shs” or something else.
4) If this kind of file was sent out and received by some PC users, they won’t hesitate to open it for.txt file is so normal file types without considering that it has anything executable in it along with a vast collection of dangerous script code in the wrapper. When opening it, there will be a DOS windows appearing whether to run the file. If click Yes, it may bring disasters to your computer.

So when receiving some unknown files, you should be caution on whether to open it or not in order to maintain computer performance. But to maintain computer speed, it is necessary for you to learn some knowledge on how to protect your computer against the potential danger within SHS files. For further information, please be patient to read through this article.

To prevent such kind of danger, you can effort from the side below:

1) Go to Start -> Run and then Registry Editor -> Locate “HEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ShellScrap”, and then delete the entry “NeverShowExt”, which was the culprit of why you can not see the extension .SHS. Hence, when receiving a .SHS file, you can see the .SHS extension.

2) Chang the default icon of “Scrap objects”. Since the default icon of scrap file is the same as Notepad, which will sometimes confuses the PC users. So you can change it to the one as you like so as to easily recognize. You can go to My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> Locate “SHS” within the “Registered File Types” -> Advanced -> click “Change Icon” and then open “C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Pifmgr.dll” to select the icon as you like. Hence, the SHS file will be shown in the icon you selected, different from other files.

3) Also, you can add “.SHS” files as the one that needs to be scanned by your anti-virus programs. Hence, it will automatically warm you when receiving such kind of files.

With the discussion above, you will know how to effectively maintain computer performance by preventing the potential danger of some SHS files.

But if want to always enjoy peak performance, it is recommended that you can not belittle the powerful function of a simple disk defragmentation for it will help you easily rearrange the contents locating on the hard disk, returning you a faster computer. If you have never run one before, please go to take one right now.

Of all the complaints among computer problems, the most common one that encountered by lots of computer users is that their computer take very longer time to start up or just open a simple application. So why do you have the similar problem? Normally, the answer to your question is related to the fragments on the hard disks. The more fragments on the hard disks, the more time it will take to input or output the files, significantly slowing down the computer.

As we all know that when using the computer, it is avoidably for us to store some files/programs on the computer for further usage. Hopefully, it is better to store the same file at a single place contiguously like putting things in order in the warehouse so as to easily find them out. But in many cases, the file is cut into different parts and then located in the gaps among other files instead (gaps come from actions like deleting and removing files). Moreover, no matter what the computer is running, the entries to the hard disk are happening always. When the hard disk is fragmented, it is possible for us to read/write the file, but it will increase the movement of the hard disk head, making it move too much than ever before and then shortening its lifespan.

So to fix a slower computer and maintain the hard disk, a disk defragmentation is necessary. In my opinion, the Windows built-in disk defragmenter should be the first tool you need to run when noticing that your computer is running slower than as usual. But if you have defragmented your computer before with it, you may find that it consumes very long time to defragment the whole computer smoothly and quickly for it will either stop at the halfway or automatically skip some certain system file with the extensions like DLL, lnl. This was what I met when defragmenting my computer, so to thoroughly defragment your computer, please rely on a reliable professional defrag program in order to ensure a complete and faster defragment process.

As what you can see above, it is necessary for all computer users to regularly defragment the computer. But to always ensure a complete defragmentation, please be patient to read through this article for more useful tips.

To defragment the computer much faster, please remember to close all running programs (especially the anti-virus program and screen saver programs), and do not do anything else such as seeing movies or listening to music and so on during the defragment process, in order to throw away all other unassociated interference. If possible, it is appreciated that you can boot the computer into safe mode before the disk defragmentation. Hence, it will be much faster in defragmenting the computer.

But considering that, nowadays the size of the hard disk is much bigger than before, it is advisable for you to defragment your computer with a trusted defrag program for they always applies with very advanced defragment technology and then quickly analyze the hard disk for fragments and then reassemble them in minutes, making the computer easily run faster and also extend the lifespan of the hard disk.

Among all the defrag programs I have ever used, Advanced Defrag is the one that I love so much: easy to use and powerful in defragmenting the hard disk and the PC registry. So if you like, you can click here to have a trial.

In conclusion, a simple disk defragmentation is a must that you should do in daily life to solve and prevent a slower computer. If you have never run a disk defragmentation before, please go to defragment it immediately and it will return you a faster computer which runs like new.

No matter what the computer is used for, I believe it will hardly be a pleasant experience to find it run slow at startup. Here, some solutions will be discussed on how to fix this startup problem, and to speed up computers at startups.

If your computer always boots slow, maybe you can consider adding a new RAM to completely speed up the computer. But if it used to run fairly fast, but suddenly become slower, it will be a little abnormal. But the solutions below may help you.

1) Scan the computer for virus and malware
As we all know once the computer is infected by virus or malware, it will become extremely slow at startups. So a scan is necessary. But before the scan, please first update your anti-virus program to ensure a completely latest virus database.

2) Optimize startup programs
When using the computer, we will always install programs on the computer. Some will add entries to startup automatically when windows startup. To deal with a slow startup, you must learn to turn off some programs that do not need to start up at booting up the computer. You can go to Start -> Run -> type msconfig and press Enter to access Startup. Here, you can delete entries that do not need to automatically run at windows startup. But please do not turn off the anti-virus program because of the real-time safeguard of the computer.

3) Defragment and optimize PC registry
During startup, windows system will read the relevant data in registry and most startup time is spent on this process. So it becomes necessary to regularly defragment and optimize the PC registry. Because of the blooming development of the Internet technology, it is very easy for us to get access to some very advanced registry cleaner from the internet. But no matter which program you are using, it is recommended to first back up the registry before.

4) Regularly maintain system.
Too many installed PC games, programs on the computer will also cause a slow computer and startup, so it is better to thorough maintain the entire system. You can go to Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Maintenance Wizard and then click “Yes” to begin the maintenance process, keeping the computer always run at maximum optimization. Besides, to solve a computer slow startup, a disk defragmentation is needed regularly for it will rearrange the files on the hard disk, making all parts of a file always stay close together and contiguously. In this way, it will be much easier to get access to when trying to read / read it, and speed up the computer.

Normally, we can defragment the computer directly by going to Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools, and then select Disk Defragmenter. This will significantly make the computer run faster at startups. But from a questionnaire, we find that nowadays, more and more people prefer to defragment their computers with a third-party defrag program rather than the stubborn windows built-in Disk Defragmenter for it always cost very long time to get through the defragment process.

So here, in order to effectively solve the startup problem and speed it up, I recommend you to use Advanced Defrag, which will help your quickly defragment your computer thoroughly, making it not only run faster at startup, but also during the whole process of using the computer. If you want to have a faster computer, go to have a try of this wonderful program.

After using the computer for some time, some will find that it is running slower and slower. Here, some causes and solutions will be discussed. Please do not miss it if you want to get a faster computer.

1) Too many installed programs

It is necessary for us to install programs on our computer in order to properly use it. But most of time, some users will blindly install some programs on the computer, without knowing that whether they are needed or not. Sometimes, some programs will be needed only once or automatically start up at windows startup. On the other hand, by default, programs will be installed in C drive. Days by, with the increasing amount of the programs, it will take longer time to start up the computer and other programs, making it desperately slow at startup. So to get a faster computer, please first uninstall some unwanted programs from the computer and disable the program that do not need to automatically run at windows startup. If possible, please try to install some program to other drives, like D, E drive.

2) Infected by virus

It is common to see that a computer runs slow because of the infection of virus. When the virus infects your system files, it will also search the hard drive for other program so as to infect as many as possible. What is serious, the virus will run before the program and then load into the system, taking up a lot of resources and significantly slowing down the system. Also it will be transmitted to other computers, stealing personal information and eventually crash the computer. So it is appreciated to install some powerful anti-virus programs on the computer and then scan for virus regularly.

3) No disk defragmentation after long-time usage.

We know that files/folders/programs are always arranged in sequence on the hard disk, but as user often do some remove/delete action, there will be lots of incoherent, fragmented files existing on the hard disk. The more fragmented the computer it, the slower it will be when trying to run it. So to ensure the computer always run at maximum speed, it is necessary to defragment it weekly. It you have never run a disk defragmentation before, try it now.

In conclusion, thought many aspects will result in a slower computer, we can easily fix or avoid it in our daily life from several sides. To my own experience, a disk defragmentation will be a must-done aspect in order to get a faster computer.

Key words:

slower computer, faster computer, disk defragmentation, defragment

It is sure that no one wants to work with a slow computer for it will bring more inconvenience. If you are eager to have a faster computer all the time, please do not miss this article, telling how to avoid a slow computer.

Though many factors result in a slow computer, in our daily life, we can effort from the small details below to avoid a slow computer:

1) Scan the computer for virus regularly. It is appreciated to install a specific anti-virus program (more would be counterproductive) on the computer and scan for virus at a regular basic

2) Disable some unnecessary startup entries. You can go to Star -> Run -> type msconfig to access Startup, and then delete entries that do not need to automatically run at windows startup. For some unsure entries, check the “WinTasks Process Library” for a description of the known system processes, applications and spywares.

3) Uninstall some unwanted /useless programs from Add/Remove Programs.

4) Turn off all unnecessary animations and active desktop. You can simply go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> click Settings within Performance-> click Custom within Visual Effects, and then disable some relevant user interface.

5) Cancel some unwanted services. By default, Windows XP will recall some unwanted services, which will only slow down the computer, making no sense in protecting the computer. You can turn them off by going Start-> run-> type Services.msc to open Services, and then stop or modify the startup types of the unwanted service. Hence, the computer will be much faster at startup.

6) Visit Microsoft’s Windows Update site regularly, download/ install all updates marked with “Critical”. Normally, a notification message that informs of new updates will popped up from the task bar.

7) Defrag the computer and clean up temporary/useless file. You can right click the drive you want to defragment to select Properties, and then click Disk Cleanup to begin the cleanup process. Finally, please go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools-> Disk Defragmenter to defragment the hard disk

Hopefully, if you always pay attention to and insist on the seven tips above, your computer won’t run slower. But please note that, though a disk defragmentation seems a little simple, it helps greatly speed up the computer. If you have never run it before, go to defragment it now.

It is a desire hope for everyone to get a faster computer in order to happily enjoy every day with computers. When realizing the computer is running slower, the reasons they always think of may be something like lower configuration, too many programs or hijacks of the antivirus. They rarely realize that there is another factor that will greatly affect the entire PC performance. That is disk fragmentation, which plays an important role in speeding up the computer.

We all know that disk fragments are the same as file fragments, which are always caused during the process of creating/ deleting / updating files and folders, installing new software or downloading files on the computer. When there is not enough free available space for the same file, the file will be scattered into different pieces and then stored in different places of the hard disk. Here come the disk (file) fragments. Days by, as you delete or remove files/folders from the computer, there will be some empty gaps left behind, making the next storage action cannot locate in a single directory together. As the computer become more and more fragmented, it will take more time for the hard disk head to move too much to reach or reassemble the file/folder that we want to read/write, resulting in a slower a computer. Moreover, it will sometimes cause the freeze-ups and crashes of the computer, which will seriously impact our working efficiency and reduce the lifespan of the disk.

So what can we do to avoid this inevitable problem? The recommended solution is to run a disk defragmentation regularly. Defragmentation is a process that will rearrange the location of the files/folders on the computer so as to make the same files/folders only locate in a specific place of the computer so as to reduce the fragments on the computer. Also, it will create more available free space for the next storage action. Hence, the files/folders will be located at the same place together and contiguously, which will make the computer run faster.

Here, I recommend that you can use Advanced Defrag to defrag your computer for the real-time defragment will make the computer always far always from fragments and make it run faster soon.
