As a computer user, if you hope the computer can work longer, it is necessary to maintain the computer correctly. Since there are many ways to protect the computer, I would like to share some of my experiences in computer maintenance.
As long as you live in this computer world, you must have heard of disk defragmentation. It is really a very useful method to maintain your computer. It can help you get rid of those disturbing junks in the disk and free up space to support computer running more smoothly and efficiently.
You can find junks and temporary files in certain folders in the disks but cannot view the fragments in the disk. In other word, even you can remove the junks manually by deleting them directly, you cannot get rid of any piece of disk fragment like that. That is why Microsoft creates a defragmenting program to help you solve this problem. Unfortunately, such program seems to be designed for those who have plenty of time and energy. So, in order to optimize defragmentation performance, it is wise for you to use other tools like “Advanced Defrag”.
It is known to all that many system programs are put in the C disk. If there are a mass of fragments in it, it is probably to hinder system startup speed. In order to speed up the starting speed, you should reduce the fragments in the C systematic disk as many as possible. In certain Windows systems, it may create a temporary swap folder named “WIN386.SWP” in the “C: /WINDOWS” directory. Such folder is used to work as virtual memory by applying its hard disk space. That is to say, even you do nothing as long as you start up computer, the temporary swap folder is still there to occupy disk space. Working as virtual memory, it will read and write to hard disk frequently and lead to a pile of hard disk fragments.
It is undoubted that you must close down screen saver program ahead of defragmentation. Otherwise, defragmenting program may start up repeatedly. You can check whether you have shut it down by right-clicking desktop and clicking “Properties”. In the “Display Properties”, click “Screen Saver”. In the tab, you can see whether you have chosen “None” in the screen saver column. If not, you can choose “None” to turn it off. And, if you are an experienced user, you can attempt to change the registry so as to make screen saver shut down automatically.
And how long will it take to defragment disks? If the capability of hard disk or partition is too little, it will take less time to defragment. But if not, you have to wait for a long time to defragment disks thoroughly. What is worse, some disk fragments are so stubborn that you can not avoid them.
As a result, it is unavoidable to produce disk fragments unless you have limitlessly huge hard disk. As long as you add or remove files in the limited space, fragments can pile in the disk without question. If you want to maintain your computer, disk defragmentation is a must choice.
